Welcome to the Concert Hall Acoustics website!

This website has been created to introduce, enlighten, and entertain you on the subject of concert hall acoustics.

Here is a brief description of what this site has to offer:

  • Foundations: This section introduces the fundamentals of room acoustics, creating a foundation for the rest of the concepts discussed in this site. The history of concert hall acoustics is also presented.
  • Discussion: In this section, we will explore important concepts in concert hall design as well as current acoustical qualities and how one objectively measures these in a performing arts space. Various interactive elements are utilized, including reverberation time calculators, animation, and sound clips.
  • Links: Links to concert hall websites and other acoustics web pages are listed here. Recently added is the Acoustical Society of America Tutorial on Architectural Acoustics from the 144th Meeting in December 2002.
  • References: Find out what resources were used in creating this site and where to find more information about concert hall acoustics.
